So the Best Part of the Day...

I grew up with an eternal optimist as a mother. She was other things as well, but she was always looking for the silver linings and having her kids do the same. Looking back now, I realize she was probably just searching for something to smile about as well as strengthen her search for sanity as she managed 5 crazy kids and a household that seemed to always have a lot going on. I'm not sure if she did it the same with all of her kids, but as the caboose in her family she'd come say good night and often ask me "what was the best part of today?"

Sometimes I had to think of an answer, sometimes I just pretended that I had to think so she'd stay longer before saying goodnight, but most of the time I had an answer ready to go as soon as she asked. As I got older, I sometimes couldn't come up with an answer, and then she'd help me think of possible silver linings to the events of that particular day. No matter what - she came up with something.

Now I find myself asking Benj the same question quite frequently and the answers are varied, but I still love hearing and sharing the best parts of the day. It keeps us positive and focused on the good, and who doesn't like that? So the best part of today?
  • I successfully got the shopping, the dishes, and dinner prepped today. I'm ahead of schedule...now we'll just have to see how long that lasts.
  • Benj & I spent his Monday off work doing some much needed sorting/organizing in our spare room. We can now see the floor and we can refer to it as the "Rec Room" rather than it's previous name...the "Wreck Room".
  • The stake RS meeting publicity stuff I volunteered on is almost done. And I get to use my trusty new paper cutter to finish it up... 1275 fliers to trim while I watch a movie!
  • I'm just really thankful for cars that work. I saw a car broken down today on my way home from my errands and I was so glad that's something I don't have to worry about. Benj keeps track of our repairs and upkeep and he's my hero for doing so!
So what was the best part of your day?

  1. Spare bedroom - word. Best part of today was watching Clark have so much fun at Bounce Spot! He's just the cutest. Now, if I can clean 2 rooms and start dinner while he's napping, that would be golden! Thanks for sharing the positive outlook! Your mom rules.

  2. Hugs, kisses, and singing from a two year-old...even if she is whiny and sick with a fever. I am glad she is usually so healthy. Grateful for friends who have lifted me through the years. Grateful for my sweet husband and all he does.
